Director of Discipleship Bruce Schrott Director of Discipleship bruce@fumcgt.org Bruce was born in central Kansas and grew up on the Kansas prairies where the Milky Way was awe inspiring on clear nights, the horizons felt infinite, and you could watch thunderstorms roll in from miles away. He and his wife, Peggy, attended high school and Kansas State University together and were married while in college. They moved to Lake Jackson, Texas after college to start their careers and raised their two children there. They moved to Sanford, Michigan in 2006 then moved to Georgetown after Bruce retired from The Dow Chemical Company to be closer to their two "Grandma magnets.” Bruce’s idea of paradise is the tall grass prairies of the Kansas Flint Hills. His passion for teaching and leading others involves helping them understand the longing that lingers at the intersection of our being and our becoming who God calls us to be. He has led numerous Sunday school classes, Bible studies, small groups, and covenant groups. His approach is to create safe spaces for people to explore a deeper understanding of God, themselves, and other people. He is also a member of the Micah Workers for Racial Justice group at First United Methodist Church in Georgetown where that group seeks to live out Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to build a Beloved Community. Bruce and Peggy joined FUMC in 2012. He originally joined the FUMC staff in 2013 as Director of Adult Discipleship. He served in that role and then as Executive Director of Discipleship Ministries through 2019. He thought he had retired for good until he was asked to reprise his earlier Adult Discipleship role, to which he has returned to work part time. His focus will be helping guests and new members find life giving community at FUMC as well as offering resources for Sunday school classes and small groups. Next Item Previous Item

Our goal is to create a safe environment for children, students, and vulnerable adults as well as for adult staff and volunteers serving in these ministries. All FUMC employees and volunteers must complete this simple 5-step process to be certified for work with children, students, and vulnerable adults. Please complete and submit this Volunteer Application . This will initiate the process for a background check and MinistrySafe Sexual Abuse Awareness Online Training. You will receive an email from MinistrySafe to complete your secure online background check. You will need your social security number and your driver’s license number to complete the background check. You will receive an email with the link to the online training for MinistrySafe Sexual Abuse Awareness. Please allow one hour to complete this training. After completing the online training, please review the MinistrySafe Policies and Procedures to learn how the United Methodist Church is implementing MinistrySafe. Children's Ministry Coordinator Stephanie Gillen Children's Ministry Coordinator mailto:stephanie@fumcgt.org Stephanie was born and raised in Orlando and became a Texan in 2007. She has a BA in Organizational Communication from the University of Central Florida and an AS in Culinary Management from Valencia CC. She has been married to her husband Shawn since 2001 and has two young adult children. After teaching preschool in Round Rock for 11 years, she joined the Learning Tree team teaching music, PreK, and subbing. In addition to the Learning Tree, she spent many hours volunteering with Georgetown High School’s Choir and Theatre departments. When she’s not at FUMC working with Children’s Ministry, she enjoys volunteering at The Palace Theater, painting, traveling, cooking, and feeding her many cats and raccoons. Next Item Previous Item

Director of the Learning Tree Sarah Pyle-Shackelford Director of the Learning Tree sarah@fumcgt.org Sarah Pyle Shackelford has been an educator for 24 years and a cherished part of The Learning Tree community since 2010. Over the years, she has taught every age group, served as an administrator and board member, and experienced the school as a parent, giving her a deep and well-rounded understanding of what makes The Learning Tree so special. Born and raised in Georgetown, Sarah brings both hometown pride and a lifelong passion for early childhood education to her leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston–Clear Lake and a Master’s degree in Education from Texas State University. A member of First United Methodist Church since 1998, Sarah is deeply connected to the faith community that has supported and shaped The Learning Tree since its beginning. She has played a vital role in preserving our play-based philosophy, ensuring that children learn through exploration, imagination, and joy. Outside of school, Sarah is married to her husband, Ronan, and together they have three children — twin boys (8) and a daughter (12). She’s a Disney lover, an avid gardener, and a collector of children’s books who finds inspiration in the magic and curiosity of childhood. With her warmth, creativity, and years of experience, Sarah leads The Learning Tree with heart and dedication, continuing to make it a place where children love to learn and families love to belong.
