- Foundation | First United Methodist Church Georgetown TX
All who love First United Methodist Church are invited to consider a planned gift to the FUMC Foundation as part of their giving journey. Every household among us is called to think deeply about how to live our faith and to believe that as we are given, we can give. Legacy gifts are potentially for all of us – something to be thought of proportionately to our means, rather than as a matter of how much wealth we do or don’t have. For more information on planned giving to the FUMC Foundation, please email foundation@fumcgt.org or call the church office at 512-863-2370 x225. What is the Foundation? The FUMC Georgetown Foundation was established in 1988 to provide members and friends of FUMC the opportunity to make legacy and enduring gifts to the church either as direct gifts or through estate planning and bequests. Gifts to the fund are invested, not spent, and provide a perpetual source of income in support of the church’s ministries and missions. View the brochure below to see our complete list of funds and scholarships. Our small group opportunities, provide a supportive environment to grow alongside others on similar journeys. For more information or to inquire about a specific study, please email adults@fumcgt.org Develop Your Personal Spiritual Life The means of grace taught by John Wesley are among the ways God works invisibly in each of us. Our giving attention to these hastens, strengthens, and confirms our faith as God’s grace moves in and through us. Wesley divided the means of grace into two categories as “works of piety” and “works of mercy.” The individual works of piety include reading, meditating on, and studying the scriptures, prayer, fasting, regularly attending worship, and sharing our faith with others. Communal practices that Wesley recommended include regular participation in holy communion, Christian conferencing (accountability to one another), and Bible study. Resources for the individual practices of reading, meditation, and prayer are available from many sources. - Georgianne Hewett
Care Advocate Georgianne Hewett Care Advocate georgianne@fumcgt.org Georgianne grew up in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in a family devoted to service. Her paternal grandfather served as church treasurer. Her grandmother was active in United Methodist Women, and her parents volunteered as adult leaders for Sunday School and Methodist Youth Fellowship. That foundation shaped her passion for mission, ministry, and communities of faith. Georgianne found her career path advocating for mission-driven organizations by cultivating relationships, communicating values, securing resources, and providing strategic direction. She served three United Methodist affiliated organizations before joining FUMC Georgetown in 2024 – Texas Methodist Foundation, Southwestern University, and The Wesleyan. In her work, she noticed how people struggle with change. In 2012, she invited change into her life by leaving a job she loved and setting out on a mid-life adventure. She sold her car, moved across country, and went back to school. She earned a Master of Science degree in learning and organizational change from Northwestern University (another institution founded by Methodists). Today, her personal ministry is helping people identify what they want, the choices available to them, and how to navigate the necessary changes to get there. Spare time is an oxymoron to Georgianne. She believes every moment in life should be held like a precious gift whether reading a good book, hiking the trails of Georgetown, visiting with a dear friend, writing (which fits under her definition of fun), or simply sitting quietly with God.
