Join our church family as we pray for breakthroughs that are impossible without God’s miraculous action, intervention, and direction as we continue our focus on children/students/families, senior adults, and missions and outreach. Our Breakthrough Prayer Focus this week is Sr. Adult Ministries.
Do you enjoy singing? Do you like being part of a greater number of singers? FUMC will have Sunday Summer Drop-In Choir on August 11 and August 25 for both sanctuary worship services. We will have 20-minute rehearsals beginning 30 minutes prior to the start of each worship service. Rehearsals will be in the Worship Arts rehearsal space on the mezzanine level of the main building. For those who enjoy singing, whether young or old, experienced or with no experience, we would love to have you be part of a drop-in choir this summer. What a wonderful way to weave your voice into the fabric of our church family and join in worship and fellowship. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Garth Olson at 512.863.2370 or email@example.com. Hope to see you in choir!
Wanted: Helping Hands Tutors
God calls us to teach, care, and have compassion. Does that sound like your calling? FUMC Georgetown has a tutoring ministry with students at Annie Purl Elementary School. We meet on Tuesdays from 2:50–4:15 PM in the Maker Space at the school and work one-on-one with students in 3rd–5th grades. Building rapport and self-esteem is the major focus of our involvement with these students. This is accomplished while helping them with their reading and math skills. Tutor attendance needs to be as consistent as possible, but substitutes are available if needed. The more tutors we have, the more students we can help! Please consider joining our dedicated team. There will be an orientation at Annie Purl Elementary for all tutors and anyone interested in possibly joining the team on August 27 at 3:15 PM. The speaker will be Robyn Chancellor, math interventionist at Annie Purl. If you are interested, contact Connie Walkup at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-818-2872 or Terry Reed at email@example.com.
Christmas in August
Last year, we purchased a new Christmas tree for the MCMC. We discovered that there were not enough of the beautiful Chrismon ornaments to decorate the new tree. We need help making some. The Liturgical Arts team has put together kits which are available for pick up in the church office. Please complete the ornaments and return them to the church office by October 15th. For questions or more information, contact Camille Harmon at firstname.lastname@example.org or text 512 639-9205.
Hospitality Ministry Team Luncheon
Mark your calendars for the Hospitality Ministry Team Luncheon on Sunday, August 18 at 12:30 PM in the MCMC. We will honor all of those who currently serve on our Sunday Greeter Teams and offer an opportunity for anyone who is interested to serve on our new Hospitality Ministry Team. Please RSVP for the luncheon at https://tinyurl.com/y2edk242. “Hospitality ascribes value to people. It declares them worth welcoming.” John Pavlovitz
United Methodist Men (UMM) Meeting
The UMM will meet at IHOP in Georgetown at 8:30 AM on Monday, August 26. A representative from the Boys and Girls Club of Georgetown will present the program. We invite the men of our church to attend and enjoy the warm Christian fellowship.
Stephen Ministry Training—Save the Date
Training classes will meet Mondays through January 2020. Stephen Ministers are trained congregation members who offer confidential, one-to-one, long-term care for people experiencing an isolating and difficult life event. If you are interested in caring for others in crisis by becoming a Stephen Minister, or if you would like more information about Stephen Ministry, contact Marji Breslow at 512-632-6458 or ask one of our Stephen Leaders/Ministers (with the blue name tag).
Safe Talk Suicide Prevention Workshop
FUMC Georgetown is offering another Safe Talk suicide prevention workshop. The workshop is September 14 from 8:30 AM-1:00 PM in the 1000 rooms of the McKinney Christian Ministry Center. There is a fee of $15 to cover the cost of materials. Please register by calling Marji at 512-632-6458 or Walt at 630-728-8001. The workshop is a half-day alertness training that prepares anyone 15 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. People with thoughts of suicide are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite people to help them stay alive. Safe Talk trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. For more information, visit https://www.livingworks.net/safetalk.
