Rev. Dr. Jim Conner

Executive Pastor

Jim is the youngest of three sons who grew up in and around Chicago. His mother was a second-grade teacher, and his dad was a United Methodist pastor. His mom always used to say, “Those who can, teach, those who can’t, preach.” He followed his call to be a pastor.

He received his B.A. in Religion and Spanish from Ohio Wesleyan University, his Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and his Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary. When he started at Ohio Wesleyan University, he took a job leading student ministries at a church in Delaware, Ohio. In the 4 decades that have followed, he has been blessed to serve as a pastor at 8 churches in the Northern Illinois and the Central Texas Annual Conferences. He transferred to the Central Texas Conference in 2001 and has served at First United Methodist Fort Worth, Genesis United Methodist in Fort Worth, First United Methodist in Mansfield, and now here at First United Methodist Georgetown.

He is a widower. His wife died after a prolonged battle with a brain tumor. They were blessed with two sons, Tim and Zach, who both live in Austin. Tim is married to Jenni, and Zach is married to Molly. Jim is enjoying being near all four of them.

Jim arrived in Georgetown in January of 2020. He believed God was leading him to something new, and he is thrilled that it turned out to be a chance to serve with this wonderful church family. He loves sports (watching and playing), travel, music, and considers himself to be an “expert” on trivia questions that relate to old situational comedies, especially The Andy Griffith Show. He loves the Gospel of Luke, Matthew’s parable of the laborers in the vineyard, Micah’s incredibly succinct reminder to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly, and Paul’s conclusion in Romans 8 that there is nothing that can separate any of us from God’s love.
