We share God's grace through service.  We serve through transformative mission ministries using our spiritual gifts, passions, and skills, and we serve in the life of First United Methodist Church.

Through transformative mission ministries, we strive to be a neighbor who is engaged in building trust-based relationships with all people as beloved children of God.  Members of our congregation serve in mission ministries locally, regionally and globally.  For guidance or support in this area, please contact Ron Swain, Director of Transformative Missions at

There are several areas in the life of our church where our personal gifts or talents can be used for the glory of God: in worship, through our hospitality ministry and in the office and communications ministry.

Reading Ministry at Annie Purl Elementary School

FUMC is partnering with Education Connection to create a reading ministry at Annie Purl Elementary. We are excited that we already have 25 volunteers reading with 38 students! However, we need more volunteers as more students are being added to the program in January. If you are interested in reading to two students for 30 minutes a week, please email Kelly Kalka at Our mission is simple…every child reading by the end of 3rd grade.

Algebra and Biology Tutors Needed at East View High School (EVHS)

Getsemani Family Connections is a college access program we are developing in partnership with the EVHS Next after school program on college readiness. This program assists students with the college application process. This year, they have a number of freshman students who are in need of tutoring for algebra and biology. Tutors are needed for one hour from 4:15-5:15 PM on either Monday or Thursday at the EVHS library to work with one or two students assisting with algebra or biology homework. If you are interested, email Barbara Pearce.
