Join Us as We Partner with God in Transforming Lives

You may become a member of First United Methodist Church, Georgetown in one of three ways listed below. To indicate your desire to join, you may indicate this in the registration pads on Sunday or speak with a pastor or member of the discipleship team before or after the worship services in the Sanctuary or the McKinney Christian Ministry Center.

You May Unite by Choosing to be a Follower of Jesus

Each local United Methodist church is a community of the followers of Jesus who, in obedience to the teachings and pattern of Jesus, choose to live in relationship with one another. Church membership is based upon one openly confessing to be a follower of Jesus--a disciple. The church language for this choice is a Public Confession of Faith, confessing Jesus is Lord for one's own life. In joining this way, you will be asked: "Trusting God's grace, do you choose to be a disciple of Jesus, learning the things of God that he taught, growing in his likeness, and serving him as a member of his church?

Baptism is the New Testament means of identifying oneself as a follower of Jesus. If you have not been baptized, the pastor will administer the sacrament of baptism as you declare your choice to live as a follower of Jesus. If you have been baptized, we recognize and honor the baptism as administered by all Christian churches. We do not rebaptize.

You May Unite by Transfer of Membership

If you are a member of another congregation of The United Methodist church, we will receive you by Transfer of Membership. The church office will write and secure a Certificate of Transfer for you from your former church.

You May Unite by Membership Vows

If you are a follower of Jesus and a member of another denomination, we will receive you by church membership vows. In joining The United Methodist Church, you will be asked this question: "Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?" After receiving you into The United Methodist Church, we will contact your former church and advise them of your membership at First United Methodist, Georgetown.
