2017 Summer Bible Study
Feeding on the Word
Wednesdays June 14, 21, 28 and July 12, 19
Room 1003 in the McKinney Christian Ministry Center
“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5).
Studying scripture in a way that opens our thinking to the ways God is working in our lives can take us in new directions compared with studying scripture for information like the who, when, and where of the Bible. When seeking to be of the same mind of Christ we do more than think about God’s word; we let that Word enter and transform us. In this study, we will explore tools for reading scripture more meditatively that include deep listening for the ways God might be speaking to us. We will seek to enter scripture through our imagination and our senses in a spirit of prayer and expectancy in ways that allow us to see God’s word with new eyes. We will encourage each other to form a habit of daily scripture study and note taking (journaling) which provides practice for our group meetings. Your invitation is to come listen and respond as we seek the living presence of God in the Bible.
Each person will need to purchase a book and have studied the first chapter and completed the daily assignments before class begins. Cost is $8, payable to the church (check memo should say Feeding on the Word). Books are available from either Bruce Schrott, email@example.com, or Shawna Weaver, firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions contact Bruce Schrott who will be leading the class.
